Nose Thread or Nose Fillers?
Nose Thread or Nose Fillers?
With medical aesthetics gaining tract in our society, small procedures to make us feel happier about ourselves and enhance our features are getting more and more popular, especially fillers, double eyelid surgery and nose jobs. Two of the most popular nose procedures are nose fillers and nose threads. But what exactly is the difference between nose threads and nose fillers, and why are some people more suited towards one more than the other?
What are Nose Threads?
Nose threads are bio-degradable sutures placed in the nose tissue to enhance the nose shape. It is a non-surgical procedure where short threads (4-6cm) are inserted and placed on the nasal bridge and the columnella (bridge of tissue that separates the nostrils) to shape the nose, height and definition. The threads/sutures are dissolvable within 1-2 years. It is a simple and fast procedure (about 10 mins), giving minimum discomfort with good anaesthetic medicine. Compared to nose fillers, the threads do not block blood vessels, hence there is no risk of vessel occlusion which can potentially (although rarely happen) cause visual impairment or skin necrosis, which have been reported with nose fillers.
However, with caution and professional skill, such rare complications can be prevented.
Am I Suitable for Nose Thread?
Noses that are more suited to nose threads are those that already have a height to their nose bridge, but want more definition, or those with bulbous nose tips (common in Asians) looking for more contoured or smaller nose tips.
What Is It Made Of?
Most of the nose threads are made of PDO, or polydioxane. These are commonly used as medical sutures and are completely absorbable after 9-12 months. However the collagen that is produced by the thread can last for another year.
What are Nose Fillers?
Nose fillers are normally hyaluronic acid based, a natural ingredient that already exists in our body. Nose fillers can increase the nose height significantly (more obvious than the nose thread height effect). It is simply because the volume provided by fillers is greater than the thread. However, nose fillers may broaden the nose if not done properly or the product choice is incorrect.
Am I Suitable for Nose Fillers?
Nose fillers are great for noses that require more height at the nose bridge, or for those having a nose hump (prominent nasal bone), to make the line of the bridge straight. It is also good for those with a pointing downward nose tip, which raises it up by enhancing the columnella (bridge of tissue separating the two nostrils).
The main differences are that fillers are fantastic for volume and height, however, they may potentially cause nose broadening. Nose threads, while great for “contouring”, do not offer as much room for nose height correction as fillers.
Is It Painful?
With local anaesthetic, both nose fillers and nose threads are almost pain free. There won’t be downtime for nose fillers. Nose threads may cause mild swelling for 2-3 days but it is usually not noticeable.
If you need a significant nose height, or if you have a prominent nose hump, then nose fillers is a better choice. If you prefer better nose contouring and a narrow nose, then you can choose nose thread. Sometimes you may need both.
If you are not sure, why not consult a professional?
